Iranian temporary residents can extend their stay in Canada starting from March 1, 2023.

Under this measure, Iranians who wish to extend their temporary status and move between streams can do so while in Canada. They will have an opportunity to continue studying, working or visiting family.

Jonathan Wilkinson, Minister of Natural Resources made this announcement in Vancouver on behalf of Sean Fraser, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship.

He said that the application would be processed on a priority basis adding that an open work permit would be made available for Iranians already in Canada.

Canada has committed to protecting Iranians in Canada following the gross and systematic human rights violations being committed by the Iranian government.
