Today, June 24 is the Fête nationale du Quebec that was formerly Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day.
Thousands gathered at the Plains of Abraham a day earlier for a musical celebration to mark the beginning of the statutory holiday.
The fireworks display is however suspended following forest fires in parts of the province and the country.
According to the Canadian Encyclopedia, “Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day has been celebrated in North America since the early days of New France.”
The Quebec flag, Fleur-de-lys is proudly displayed.
