Citizens took to the streets of downtown St. Catharines today to have fun on usually busy streets without vehicular traffic.
The Open Streets St. Catharines event attracted both old and young. Some of the street games included hockey, basketball, lacrosse and rowing. There was in addition, music lesson, car painting and face painting.
According to its website, https://stcopenstreets.ca/, “St. Catharines Open Streets closes the streets to automotive traffic to allow residents to explore and experience their downtown core in new and interesting ways.”
Open Streets as a concept originated in Bogota, Colombia.
St. Catharines Open Streets was initiated in 2018 as a pilot project.
