Ottawa, ON (September 17, 2018): Today, Leader of the Conservative Party and Leader of the Official Opposition Andrew Scheer welcomed Aurora-Oak Ridges-Richmond Hill MP Leona Alleslev to the Conservative Party of Canada caucus.
Alleslev, a retired Captain with the Royal Canadian Air Force and former senior manager in the Department of National Defence, was elected as a Liberal in the 2015 federal election
“On behalf of my Conservative colleagues, I’m extremely pleased to welcome Ms. Alleslev to the Conservative team,” Scheer said. “She brings with her an extraordinary wealth of experience in military and foreign affairs, government procurement, and private sector leadership. She will be a strong asset in our growing Conservative team as we work toward 2019.
Prior to her election, Alleslev held senior managerial roles with Bombardier Aerospace and IBM, and owned and operated two small businesses. She also served on joint government-industry committees with the Aerospace Industry Association of Canada, the Women in Aerospace Association, and the Ontario Aerospace Council.
“More and more Canadians are realizing that Justin Trudeau and the Liberals have failed to provide the leadership Canada will need to meet the complex challenges of our time,” Scheer said. “By welcoming Ms. Alleslev, we continue to build a team that is ready and able to lead Canada with strength and resolve into the future.”
Scheer has named Alleslev the Conservative Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Global Security.
“Canadians need a government that delivers real action on the things that matter,” Alleslev said. “I believe the Conservative Party of Canada will deliver structural changes to strengthen Canada’s economy, and a comprehensive foreign and defence policy to ensure our global competitiveness and security. I am looking forward to being part of the team to achieve this.”
