OTTAWA, ONTARIO – Today is Canada Day, a day to celebrate all that is great about our country.
Today we honour our proud history, give thanks for our peaceful present, and celebrate our bright future. We are privileged to live in the best country in the world, a federation bound by liberty, justice, compassion, and freedom. In the 151 years since Confederation, Canada has been a light unto the world, a bastion of moral conviction on the world stage and a place of boundless opportunity for those who are blessed to call it home.
On this day, we must also honour our veterans, the women and men of the Canadian Armed Forces, as well as their families. They are all Canadian heroes. We will always be grateful to them for their sacrifice, for their bravery in the most dangerous parts of the world, and for upholding the safety and security we enjoy every day.
As Canadians, we also have a duty to stand up for our values when they are threatened – both at home and abroad. Canada’s Conservatives will always side with those whose basic human rights are limited or denied. This is Canada’s hard-earned legacy to the world.
To my fellow citizens, our neighbours, and our loved ones, let us continue to share with each other that Canadian spirit of goodwill, cooperation, and friendship. I urge you to take the time today to be with family and friends, and to celebrate Canada – the best country in the world.
From my family to yours, I wish you a safe and happy Canada Day.
