A priority COVID-19 vaccination clinic for people with disabilities took place today at the Hamilton Public Library – Barton Branch.

The area is one of the low vaccination rate zip codes in Hamilton. The priority vaccination clinic was in recognition of the need of those who live in the core Hamilton downtown area to have access to vaccination.

Speaking to Mosaic Edition, Kojo Damptey, Interim Executive Director Hamilton Centre for Civic Inclusion said that people with disabilities were disproportionally affected by COVID-19 according to data of Hamilton Public Health in October 2020. The priority clinic was organized through the collaboration of various community organizations with the City of Hamilton.

The community members include Hamilton Centre for Civic Inclusion, Refuge Newcomer Health, Compass Community Health, Centre De Santé Communautaire, Disability Justice Network of Ontario and the Hamilton Urban Core Community Health. City Councillor Ward 3, Nrinder Nann also collaborated in organizing the priority clinic.

Status of Cases in Hamilton at the time of the report shows that City of Hamilton has 4,020 active cases. The city has reported 426 fatalities so far.
