Nice to see the Minister help tie my shoe, says new Canadian Dawood Rizwan shortly after receiving his certificate of citizenship at a special citizenship ceremony today in Toronto.

Dawood Rizwan,6, with his parents and siblings took part in a pop culture inspired citizenship ceremony as part of the opening of this year’s annual fan convention of FAN EXPO Canada.
Ahmed Hussen, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship had just administered the oath of citizenship to 90 new Canadians and was about to present Dawood Rizwan with his citizenship certificate when the loose shoelace caught his eye.
“I am a father of three boys and I would do what every father would do.” The minister said he also took safety into consideration. “It took 30 seconds to tie it,” he said. It was a special moment to welcome the new Canadian. “I really did not think about it, I just did it.”
The minister wore the Black Panther anaconda costume underneath his suit and tie formal wear to celebrate the return of FAN EXPO to Toronto after 25 years.

The 90 new citizens were afforded the experience of pop culture at the annual fan convention.
Albert Wong, Citizenship Judge, welcomed the new citizens with some words of wisdom.
