Today is the start of Black History Month. The month is to honour and celebrate the stories and achievements of Black Canadians. This year’s theme is February and Forever: Celebrating black history today and every day.

The month is being celebrated with virtual events across the country due to COVID-19 pandemic restrictions on large gatherings.

Sofifran celebrates Black History Month 2017

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in his message noted that Black Canadians and their communities have a history of being trailblazers and change makers.

The Prime Minister mentioned the contribution of Dr. Alexandra Bastiany, Canada’s first woman interventional cardiologist and soccer star Alphonso Davies as examples of those who have contributed to the community.
