Justin Trudeau, The Leader of Liberal Party, has defended his government’s efforts to address racism in Canada.
The incumbent in the September 20 election was at a private residence in Mississauga where he spoke of plans for Canada if reelected.
Answering a reporter’s question, Trudeau defended efforts to fight anti-Black racism and systemic racism during his administration.
“We were the first government to fight anti-black racism, systemic discrimination and unconscious bias.
“We recognize the long decade of people of African descent,” said Trudeau.
He said his administration worked on the priorities of blacks, which include making changes to justice system on eliminating mandatory minimum, investing in community organizations by the black community and responding to the biggest concern which is access to capital.
He noted that one should not just talk of fighting racism and intolerance without providing the tools to deal with the problem.
He stated the tools to deal with this problem had been unavailable for too long. He recalled a motion to condemn Islamophobia failed in the parliament.
He said Erin O’Toole and some members of the Conservative Party voted against the motion.
In his post election speech, Erin O’Toole stressed his belief in diversity and inclusion.
He said his administration invested in community safety programs and continued to call out racism and intolerance wherever it is seen.
