Ottawa, ON – Today, Garnett Genuis, Conservative Candidate for Sherwood Park—Fort Saskatchewan, and Jag Sahota, Conservative Candidate for Calgary Skyview, detailed the Conservative Party of Canada’s plan to strengthen families and strengthen the immigration system with Canada’s Recovery Plan.

“Canada’s Conservatives have always stood behind immigrants to Canada. Nowhere on earth is there more equality of opportunity, celebration of diversity, or success for newcomers than in Canada,” said Genuis, who previously served as the Shadow Minister for International Development and Human Rights.

To secure Canada’s future and restore Canada as the model immigration system for the world, Canada’s Conservatives will:

  • Strengthen Canadian families by reuniting them with their loved ones and extending the tenure of the super visa to five years.
  • Immediately launch a Credential Recognition Task Force to develop new timely and appropriate credential recognition strategies.
  • Support choice and flexibility in child care by making more child care expenses tax-deductible.
  • Offer a new benefit for families who care for elderly relatives at home.

“Immigrants to Canada are an integral reason why our country is regarded as the best in the world,” said Sahota, who previously served as the Shadow Minister for Women and Gender Equality. “As Canada rebuilds in the aftermath of the global pandemic, Canada’s immigration policy must once again be rooted in our democratic values, and in inclusive, successful economic growth.”

The Conservative Party’s detailed plan to strengthen immigration and support families is part of Canada’s Recovery Plan. The full platform is available here.
