Approximately 250 Afghan refugees arrived in Canada yesterday through the country’s Privately Sponsored Refugees Program.
Sean Fraser, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship said in a statement that the first charter flight of privately sponsored Afghan refugees arrived at the Toronto Pearson International Airport Thursday afternoon.
The minister noted that private sponsors are essential in helping vulnerable newcomers thrive in their new communities.

Canada has made humanitarian commitments to welcome vulnerable Afghan refugees , including women leaders, human rights defenders, persecuted minorities , LGBT individuals and journalists.
